Kenneth A. Huff is an interdisciplinary visual artist working in a variety of traditional and new media. Through intricately-detailed abstractions, he explores evolving patterns and forms in nature. His body of organically-inspired work spans more than ten years and includes prints, sculptures, time-based projects, interactive installations, photographs and videos. Ken’s works have been included in over 350 public showings and been recognized with over 120 visual arts awards and grants. Recognizing the unique way he has used their software, Alias Systems (Toronto, Canada) named Ken a “Maya Master” in 2002. Ken has received in-kind support and technology grants from Alias Systems, mental images GbmH (Berlin, Germany), the General Motors Design Center (Warren, Michigan), the Savannah College of Art and Design School of Film and Digital Media (Georgia), Apple Computer and ART VPS (Cambridge, United Kingdom). He received a 2006 Individual Artist Grant from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, Florida and a 2007 State of Florida Artist Enhancement Grant. One-person showings have included exhibitions at the Brevard Museum of Art and Science (Melbourne, Florida; 2003), the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago; March 2005) and the Savannah School of Art and Design (April–May 2005). A solo exhibition will be held at the Atlanta City Gallery at the Chastain Art Center (Georgia), September–November 2007. Ken’s work has been included in nine ACM SIGGRAPH* Art Galleries, with a total of twenty-six works shown. The most recent of these was the 2006 exhibition in Boston, Massachusetts for which he also served as a juror. Currently, a site-specific version of one of his time-based works is showing in Victory Plaza in Dallas, Texas and will be in rotation there for the next few years. Future group exhibitions include showings at Radford University Art Museum (2008) and North Illinois University Art Museum (2008/2009). Ken has lectured frequently about his work and creative practice. In November 2005, he was a Malloy Visiting Fellow at Juniata College (Huntingdon, Pennsylvania). He has presented his work at the School of Visual Arts (New York, New York), numerous SIGGRAPH conferences, the Digital Arts and Sciences Program at the University of Florida (Gainesville), the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for Information Technology (State College), Boston University and the General Motors Design Center. In Spring 2007, Ken was a visiting artist at the School of Film and Digital Media at Savannah College of Art and Design. Recent books containing Ken’s work include Art of the Digital Age by Bruce Wands (Thames and Hudson, June 2006), Painting the Digital River by James Faure Walker (Prentice Hall, January 2006) and CGI: The Art of the 3D Computer-Generated Image by Peter Weishar (Abrams, November 2004). Aesthetic Computing, edited by Dr. Paul Fishwick (MIT Press, Spring 2006), includes cover artwork created by Ken and a chapter on his Encoding with Prime Factors series. Ken maintains a studio in Savannah, Georgia and was appointed recently as a professor of visual effects in the School of Film and Digital Media at Savannah College of Art and Design. *Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics |
